The English Well

30^th September evening, when you are left with few hours to file a return of under-audit client. And you are confused on a taxability of particular income. And then your boss looks at your confused face and calls you. You ,suddenly, come out of lost world of Income tax and look at your boss. He ask you “All is well” . You again turn your face to income tax for a second then turn face to the computation of client and say “all IN well”

Thinking of well, as a structure, what comes to your mind is something ‘black’, ‘round’, ‘deep’ - like some ‘creepy’ thing. In fact, many movies have used ‘well’ as something to scare the audience, let it be ‘Kaal’ or ‘Murder2’ or you can also take some of ramsay movies.

Now, think of well as a feeling, “All is well”, “I m well now”, “Well done”, “Study well”. All goodie-goodie words with goodie-goodie feelings. It is used to motivate people. It shows love and care.

 English is funny language. When, in English language, ‘well’ as a structure is ,most of the time, creepy then why in the same English language it is used for good wishes and good feelings. In my life also, when my parents or my close friends wish me “study well” then I reply them “don’t worry, I will study the oceans, don’t leave things in option”
